The Key takeaways

  • Planning out your photo shoot ahead of time can be difficult due to multiple changing factors.

    • Weather and Lighting conditions

    • Site specific conditions

    • Required equipment for desired outcome

  • Sharing can be limited due to the storage requirements for photos.

Defining the problem…

James has limited time to shoot his photography. He needs a better way to plan for what equipment he needs to bring to different locations.

…so I can define a better Solution

  • Create an app that will allow users to post, update and access real-time data about their destinations as it relates to photography.

  • Data about each destination should include travel information, weather + lighting conditions, and equipment recommendations.

  • A social platform could also be utilized for users to post their work and share or comment on technical details.

Helping the user accomplish their goals

The app should be simple to use, and offer the user straight forward paths to information vital to their planning.

Putting pen to paper

  • Concepts included rough ideas for an interactive or search based map, to help users find the destination they intend to visit.

  • Destinations should include up-to-date weather and lighting conditions, user photos, and equipment recommendations.

  • Starred destinations, user profile, and social network functions.

Lessons learned

There are many different focuses in photography from hobbyists to professionals. Each specialization in itself could yield different data on how photographers learn and grow, and which tools they rely on to hone their skills. This app may be better able to serve the photography community with more data focused on different user needs according to their areas of focus.
